Our Media Interview Skills for Modern Leaders workshops are the most comprehensive on the market. That's because they come with 12 months access to our online media training course, "The Media Training Academy" to complement the training day. This has built-in interview scenarios where clients practice actual media interviews through their webcam. See more here. Lots can be learned in one day, but to become a real expert, ongoing practice is required. The training in the online course is identical to what's covered in the face-to-face workshop. See "What We Do" for the details.
Our training takes into account all the recent changes that have occurred in the news media landscape. Some of these mean that spokespeople need to adapt their approach to media relations. For example, the requirements of reporters have changed over recent years. This means you need to adapt to these new needs if you want to get your message across to media audiences and remembered. These changes are also covered in our book, "Media Training for Modern Leaders." This is one of the most up-to-date books on the subject and is available through Dymocks bookstores in Australia, or online at Amazon.com or BarnesandNoble.com
Pete is a former daily newspaper reporter and government press secretary. Most media trainers are former reporters, so they understand what journalists want. But many have never worked alongside high-profile spokespeople in a full-time media advisory capacity or been spokespeople themselves. They know how to ask questions. But answering them is a totally separate skill.
A media trainer should understand the mindset of a spokesperson in high-stakes situations and have felt the stress that goes with that. Such roles sometimes include the actual spokesperson duties. Pete’s journalism background and media advocacy positions in government and the private sector (including occasional spokesperson duties), allow him to offer media training with a detailed understanding of both interviewer and spokesperson.
Media training is the core product. That’s why it’s the business’s name. Pete doesn’t offer dozens of different services. Media training is his passion and primary specialty.
