Media Training Workshops for School LeadersMedia Training for School Leaders Workshops prepare you for every media opportunity that may face you or your school. Whether you are preparing for an interview with One News, the Sunday Star Times, or a local newspaper, Media Training NZ can make you shine.

What exactly will you learn?

  • Ensure what you say gets reported by the media
  • Avoid being taken out of context or misquoted by journalists
  • Look and feel confident in media interviews
  • Be prepared for media scrutiny
  • Communicate better with all other groups including parents

How do the Media Interview Training Workshops work?

The primary training method is videotaped, mock interviews. It’s is important that you are on camera as much as possible. One skill is focused on at a time, before you are asked to put that into practice on camera. This is followed by a constructive critique. It’s then time to move on to another area.

Because this practical element of training is so important, numbers in these workshops are limited to small groups. That way you get all the attention you need.

While you will leave confident about dealing with the toughest of interviews, the objective is to build confidence rather than solely scare you with aggressive interview techniques from the outset.

What is different about this Media Interview Training?

1 While the focus is on mastering your media skills, the course also looks at the needs of the journalist. It's how to create a win  win situation where both you and your interviewer are happy with the outcome.

2 Its practical focus. You get all the theory you need, but no more. For full-day workshops, you usually get on camera five times. The most common feedback is the massive confidence boost School Leaders get from seeing themselves improve throughout the day. It does not matter what your skill level is at the outset. You will be far better and confident at the end of the session.

Training Format Options

Private Group Training
This can take place at your school anywhere in New Zealand. You decide how many people attend, but the smaller the group, the more attention each individual will receive. The training and scenarios used will be tailored specifically for your school. There are full and half day options.

Public Workshops
These are for individual School Leaders to come together with their peers for training. They are full day and limited to 8 people.

The training we completed with you last year has been so valuable to me on so many occasions. The tragedy we had last week with a young student passing away drew big media attention and I felt really well equipped to field interviews and make comments. The awareness you have instilled in us certainly paid dividends every time. Thank you for that.
